The Destination

Zambia is one of Africa’s hidden gems for hunters seeking wild, free-range safaris. With enormous concessions in the Luangwa Valley, Kafue, and Bangweulu regions. Zambia is known for its variety of species, strong populations of dangerous game, and the chance to hunt some of Africa’s best lion and leopard. Remote and authentic, Zambia offers a safari experience steeped in tradition and adventure.

The Terrain

Zambia’s hunting concessions cover millions of acres of unfenced wilderness.

  • Luangwa Valley: Mopane woodland, riverine forests, and open floodplains, a hotspot for elephant, lion, leopard and buffalo.

  • Kafue Region: Vast miombo woodlands, rolling hills, and dambos (grassy wetlands) preferred terrain for Sable antelope and big cats.

  • Bangweulu Swamps: Famous for sitatunga and black lechwe.

The diversity of habitats supports a wide range of huntable species and provides the ideal setting for classic spot-and-stalk or baited big cat hunts.

Huntable Game Species

Zambia offers some of the most unique species in Africa, alongside its dangerous game:

  • Big Cats: Leopard thrive in the Luangwa, making Zambia one of the top destinations for leopard hunting. Excellent lion are also available in select GMAs under strict quotas.

  • Dangerous Game: Buffalo are plentiful, particularly in the Luangwa as well as Elephant, Nile crocodile and Hippo.

  • Plains Game: Sitatunga, Black lechwe, Kafue lechwe, Chobe bushbuck, Puku, Lichtenstein’s Hartebeest, Sable, Roan, Kudu, Waterbuck, Zebra, Impala, Reedbuck, and more.

For hunters seeking both dangerous game and endemic antelope species, set Zambia apart from other safari destinations.

The Experience

  • Cuisine: Dining in Zambia blends bush authenticity with hearty meals. Expect fresh game meat prepared over open fires, stews, roasted meats, and vegetables, complemented by South African wines. Sundowners on riverbanks cap off the hunting day.

  • Lodging: Safari camps are remote yet comfortable, ranging from traditional reed chalets to thatched lodges overlooking rivers. All feature en-suite bathrooms, hot showers, and solar or generator power. The emphasis is on authentic wilderness comfort, where hunters can enjoy campfires under star-filled skies.
